The Upper River above Crane Prairie is fishing well, mostly for small Brook Trout. We are also seeing some nicer Brookies and Rainbow's in this stretch too. We are fishing attractor dries and terrestrials along with little bead head nymphs and a tungsten headed streamer called a Rufus.

We have been having tons of fun on the Upper Deschutes, mostly on dries! A Steamer fished along the logs or in the pools can pull some nice fish too.
Seeing good PMD and Caddis hatches and also getting some amazing fishing on attractors.

We've been doing quite a few floats on the Upper D below Wickiup and most days have produced lots of fish, including some browns in the 20 inch range. Fish are coming on Caddis, PMD's, Streamers & Small Nymphs.
On the Headwater stretch above Crane Prairie the hatches have been really good, including Green Drakes. I expect to see Golden Stones in the next couple of weeks. The Little Brookies are active on the surface so it is a fun place to fish for kids and families.

We've been fishing and guiding the Upper and having some great fishing. Green Drakes are hatching in some areas here than on the Metolius at the moment. PMD's and Caddis are also strong with hatches occuring daily. Don't forget your ant patterns on the Upper river and bring some good nymphs for non hatch times or try an attractor dry like a Princess Di or Rubber Leg Trude. In some areas streamers are also quite good.
While the Middle and Lower Deschutes went crazy with High Water, they actually lowered the Upper flows to hold water back in the reservoirs for storage so it is in perfect shape now.

Another good place for a Hopper/Dropper. Many of the fish taken will be on the small trailer nymph. Try a Lightning Bug or Psycho Prince.
Attractor Dries are always a good bet here, and a skittered pattern is often very enticing.
Have you ever tried stripping a Girdle Bug here? Pretty good....

We've been having plenty of fun on the Upper D, both between Little Lava and Crane Prairie and floating right below Wickiup.
Good Hopper action along with some hatches of Mayflies (PMD's mostly) and plenty of caddis.
Make sure to bring some little bead head nymphs for the best action.
