Guide Trip Options for 2010
The Fly Fisher’s Place Guide Trip Options for 2010:
Lower Deschutes River:
1)Warm Springs to Trout Creek. Our most popular guide trip at FFP. A drift boat trip of 10 miles makes this a perfect 1 day trip but can also be stretched to an overnight trip. 1 to 3 people per boat. Season runs from April 24th to October 31st for Trout. Steelhead are in this stretch in October, November & December. We use the Drift Boat to access the river but there is no fishing from the boat on the Lower Deschutes.
Prices are $450 for 1 or 2 anglers, $500 for 3 anglers.
(2)Overnight trips are $600 per person for 2 days fishing and 1 night camping including meals.
(3) Dinner Float on the Deschutes. On this trip we meet in the late afternoon and float 2 ½ miles from Warm Springs to Mecca taking out at dark. We will bring a nice dinner to enjoy along the river too.
We offer this trip from June 15th to October 15th.
Prices are $375 for 1 or 2 anglers, $400 for 3.
(4)Trout Creek to Harpham Flat. This 3 day trip offers spectacular fishing through a mostly roadless area. You’ll get 3 full days on the water with 2 nights camping. A bag boat/camp chef goes out ahead of the fishing boats to set camp and get the food ready for you at the end of a great day fishing. The best season is early May to Mid October for Trout and Late August into late November for Steelhead. We use the Drift Boat to access the river but there is no fishing from the boat on the Lower Deschutes.
Prices are $375 per person per day. 4 person minimum at that rate structure.
Trips with 2 or 3 anglers will also be charged an additional $200 per day (per group, not per person) to cover the bag boat.
(5)Maupin area drifts include Nena to Harpham. For Steelhead this is a good fall and early winter trip. Prices are $450 for 1 or 2, $500 for 3.
(6-8)Pine Tree to Beavertail, Pine Tree to Mack’s or Beavertail to Mack’s Canyon. These are all options for a 1 day Steelhead float. We float this area in July through November to catch the steelhead run.
Prices are $500 for 1 or 2 anglers, $550 for 3. We use the Drift Boat to access the river but there is no fishing from the boat on the Lower Deschutes.
(9)Mack’s Canyon to the Mouth. We do something no one else offers. We drift Mack’s to the Mouth in 1 day. It is 24 miles of drifting but with a very early start to the day and the long daylight hours of July and the first few weeks of August, it allows us to make the entire drift from dawn to dusk. We started this last year to get an early start to the steelhead run and it was a great success. For hardcore steelhead fishermen only!
Prices are $600 for 1 or 2, $650 for 3.
We also offer 2 or 3 day trips from (10)Mack’s Canyon to the Mouth. For a more relaxed pace to get to the Steelhead, this trip fits for most of our customers. We set a nice camp up along the river and usually stay in the same camp for 2 nights. Season runs from July to October depending on the run.
11)Crooked River:
The Crooked is a year round fishery for us, but is best from March to late October. Usually midges dominate the fishing action in December, January and February. By March, the BWO hatches begin as the water begins to warm. By mid spring the river is alive with mayflies and caddis in April and May.
In the Summer, the water remains cold coming from the bottom of the reservoir. We fish hoppers and attractors here in the summer. By Fall fishing can really get “hot” again. We watch for high water releases in the spring on big snowpack years. Runoff here can last a week to over a month and usually starts in late March.
Prices for 1 or 2 people $350, 3 people $375
12)Fall River:
A true Spring Creek, the Fall offers year round guiding opportunities for us. There are hatches all winter. We also fish little nymphs and large streamers. In the Spring and Summer there are always plenty of hatches to get the fish to look up. A nymph is a good way to stalk them too and there is no better stream in Oregon to sight fish for nice trout. In the Fall the fishing is very special here! Lots of fish and great hatches.
We are limited by regulation to have no more than 3 guides working the Fall River per day.
Prices are $350 for 1 or 2 people, $375 for 3.
Upper Deschutes: from (13)Dillon Falls to Benham Falls. This is a new guide spot in 2010. A walk and wade area with lots of nice bank water, riffles and eddies to prowl. The fish are not real sophisticated here and usually are not very big, but there are some nice sized rainbows and brown trout in this stretch. Morning or evening hatches will show off what this river can offer.
Open all year but April through October ae best.
Prices are $350 for 1 or 2 people, $375 for 3.
National Forest Pass required.
(14 and 15)Upper Deschutes from Tenino to Bull Bend or Tenino to Wyeth boat ramps. This has become a favorite float for us because we can have clients fish right from the boat. An easy and gentle float that winds through the forest. The fish tend to use bank structure as their hideout but can also be found nymphing or streamer fishing the many runs that make up this stretch.
Browns and Rainbows averaging about 12 to 14 inches, with fish going up to 7 or 8 pounds are taken every season.
Open May 22nd to October 31st. October 15th is about the end of the guide season on this stretch.
Limited to 2 people per boat.
Prices are $450 per boat.
(16)Upper Deschutes from Tetherow Boat Ramp (below Pringle Falls) to LaPine State Park. Open May 22nd to October 31st. October 15th is about the end of the fishing here as the irrigaion season comes to an end the water gets too low to float. Prices are $450 per boat.
(17)Upper Deschutes from Sunriver to above Benham Falls. An easy float trip with access to good fishing. All fishing is done from the boat while floating.
Season is from the last Saturday in May to October 31st.
Prices are $450 for 1 or 2 people.
(18)Upper Deschutes between Wickiup and Crane Prairie. This short stretch of river is not an area you’d fish all day but a good back up spot or “different” area to fish. Walk and Wade access only with lots of log jams. The water is often moving through here pretty fast so best for more experienced anglers. Browns and Rainbows with monster whitefish too. Good for a quick stop coming or going from another area.
Short season from May 22nd to August 31st.
Prices are $350 for 1 or 2, $375 for 3.
(19)Upper Deschutes between Little Lava Lake and Crane Prairie. This area offers a lot of walk and wade opportunity and depending on water levels can be easy or challenging to wade. Plenty of small rainbows and brook trout along with good numbers of whitefish. A dry-dropper is a great way to fish this water. Access is good from road 40 bridge upstream. There are also good turnouts off of the Cascade Lakes Highway. It is a good area to fish and worth the effort. Another lesser known option is float tubing the Blue Hole below Little Lava lake. There is a small hike required through the trees so it’s not easy for all customers to do, but a strong fisherman who can carry a tube with pack straps will enjoy this area for nice brookies and rainbows in September.
This has a short season. Open from May 22nd to September 30th.
Prices are $350 for 1 or 2, $375 for 3.
(20)East Lake: Is the most consistent lake for fly fishing in our region. With good callibaetis action all summer and fall, good leech, chironomid, terrestrial and streamer fishing. Season runs from the last Saturday in April to October 31st but usually opens late due to snow blockage on the road.
